Quick answer

Evenings in Brindisi start around 19:00 with the passeggiata along the Lungomare Regina Margherita, followed by an aperitivo near the harbour or in the old town lanes around Piazza Vittoria and Corso Garibaldi. Dinner is from about 20:30. In summer the city runs mostly free concerts and events, and the old town stays lively past midnight.

What is an evening in Brindisi like?

Around seven, the light over the harbour goes soft and gold, and the town comes out. Couples in pressed shirts, grandparents arm in arm, children on scooters, teenagers in groups that never seem to move. Everyone walks the same strip of waterfront, slowly, in both directions. Nobody is going anywhere. That is the point.

Brindisi is at its best after dark. During the day it is a port and a working town; in the evening it becomes a place to be seen, to eat, to sit by the water. And unlike the busiest towns of central Puglia, the evening here belongs mostly to locals. You hear dialect at the next table, not ten languages.

For visitors that is the appeal: a real Apulian evening, ten minutes from the airport, without the summer crush of Polignano's cliffs or Ostuni's lanes. This guide covers the rhythm of a Brindisi night, where to go, what to order, what happens in summer, and how to get home safely.

The passeggiata: where to walk in the evening

The passeggiata is the evening walk, and in Brindisi it follows a clear route.

  1. Lungomare Regina Margherita: the promenade along the inner harbour, from the area of the Roman column towards the boat landing. This is the main stage.
  2. The Scalinata Virgilio and the Roman column: lit at night, with the harbour below. People sit on the steps with a gelato.
  3. Corso Garibaldi: the shopping street that runs from the harbour to Piazza Vittoria. Shops stay open into the evening, especially in summer.
  4. Piazza Vittoria and the lanes around it: cafés, bars and the busiest corner of the centre.

There is no wrong way to do it. Walk one way, stop for a drink, walk back. The whole loop takes 30 to 45 minutes at local speed, which is slow. If you want a wider picture of the old town by day, see things to do in Brindisi.

Aperitivo in Brindisi: what to order and when

The aperitivo is a drink before dinner, usually between 19:00 and 21:00, served with something to eat. In Brindisi that might be a bowl of taralli and olives, small pieces of focaccia, or, in some places, a generous plate of local bites.

What to drink:

  • A Negroamaro rosé: the local grape makes some of Italy's best-known rosé wines, fresh and dry. This is the drink of a Salento summer.
  • Spritz: the national favourite, usually with Aperol or Campari.
  • A local craft beer: Puglia has a growing number of small breweries; ask what is local.
  • Something non-alcoholic: a crodino or a fresh juice is perfectly normal.

Where to sit: tables facing the harbour on the Lungomare are the classic choice, especially at sunset. The lanes around Piazza Vittoria and the old town feel more local and are busier later. I prefer not to name single bars here, because places change from season to season; ask us for the current list when you arrive. For drinks and food in more detail, see what to eat in Brindisi.

Where do locals go out at night in Brindisi?

Nightlife in Brindisi is about bars, squares and outdoor tables more than clubs. The local council has openly pointed to the old town and the waterfront as the heart of the city's evening life, and that is where you will find most people.

Weekends are busier than weekdays all year. In summer the younger crowd often moves to beach bars along the coast, which need a car or taxi. In the old town, bars must respect noise rules, so music is usually background rather than loud. If you want a full night out in a big club, Lecce and the summer clubs of the coast are the places to ask about.

Dinner after the aperitivo: times and what to eat late

Restaurants in Brindisi usually open for dinner at 19:30 or 20:00, and the busiest time is 21:00. In summer, families with children still sit down at 22:00. If you arrive at 19:00 hungry, that is what the aperitivo is for.

What to order in the evening: seafood antipasti (a series of small plates, raw and cooked), grilled fish, orecchiette, or a pizza if you want something simple. After dinner, the walk continues with gelato or, in summer, a granita.

Late-night food is mostly pizza by the slice, panzerotti and sandwiches near the busiest squares. In winter many kitchens close earlier, so after 22:30 it is safer to ask before sitting down.

Summer nights in Brindisi: events and festivals

From June to early September, Brindisi moves its cultural life outdoors. In 2026 the city programme Meridiani d'Estate brought around sixty events, from theatre in dialect to concerts, cinema and book talks, to squares, cloisters, parks and the waterfront. Venues included Piazza Duomo, the Scalinata Virgilio and the Castello Svevo, and almost everything was free.

The big date is the festival of the patron saints, San Teodoro and San Lorenzo, in early September. The streets fill with lights, the statues and relics of the saints cross the harbour on a boat followed by traditional wooden fishing boats, and the night ends with fireworks over the water. It is the most crowded evening of the year in Brindisi and the most memorable.

Is Brindisi safe at night?

The centre of Brindisi is generally safe at night, and the evening crowds help: the waterfront, Corso Garibaldi and Piazza Vittoria are busy with families until late, especially in summer. Use the same common sense you would in any port city. Keep valuables out of sight, do not leave bags on chairs, and stick to lit streets.

The quieter areas around the port and the station are fine to cross but not places to linger very late. Women travelling alone, couples and families walk the old town at night without problems. If something feels wrong, walk back to the busier streets, which are never far away.

Getting home: taxis, trains and late transport

Inside the old town you walk. Distances are short: from Piazza Vittoria to the Roman column is a few minutes. For anything further, taxis are the main option late at night. There are taxi ranks at the railway station and the airport; in the centre it is easier to ask the bar or restaurant to call one. Ride-hailing apps are not a reliable option here.

City buses, run by STP Brindisi, thin out in the evening, and the last regional trains to Lecce and Ostuni leave earlier than many visitors expect. If you plan an evening in Lecce, check the last train back before you order dessert. If you drive to a beach bar, decide who is driving before the first drink.

Early flight the next morning? The airport is about 10 minutes by car, so you can enjoy the evening and still sleep. Our stopover guide shows how to plan a single night in town.

An evening on the terrace at BDS House

Some of the best evenings in Brindisi happen above the street. BDS House has two private terraces in the old town, and the rooftop one looks over the roofs and the bell towers. Guests often buy wine and snacks during the passeggiata and take the aperitivo upstairs, then go out again for dinner.

The house sleeps up to six, has a full kitchen and is a short walk from the waterfront and Piazza Vittoria, so you can be home in minutes after the fireworks. See dates on the booking page.
